Leadership and relative strength
The aim is to identify where leadership is strengthening or weakening. Rankings and stage labels help describe the current picture. Related research examines those labels against subsequent excess performance relative to SPY.
What needs validation
A descriptive stage label does not establish predictive value. Published results need to explain the sample, evaluation window, benchmark and limitations, including where an apparent relationship did not hold up.
